Are We Safe with SAF? Part 1

Are We Safe with SAF? Part 1

The answer to the question, “Are we safe with SAF?” is a resounding, widely accepted, “Yes,” as it is approved JET A fuel (equivalent to fossil kerosene), produced using a range of non-oil feedstocks. Operators have now accepted this as fact – subject to quality control measures, of course. However, whether we can rely on SAF to deliver aviation carbon neutrality (Net Zero) by 2050, which is what aviation has committed itself to, is another question altogether.

Best Hotels for Business Aviation Crews and Passengers

Several considerations come into play when booking hotels for crew or passengers who fly on private aircraft. An internet hotel search or recommendation from a travel site might be the preferred method when flying commercially. By contrast, AC-U-KWIK polls FBOs to establish a select group of preferred hotels that cater to general aviation.

Airports with Most Active Runways in AC-U-KWIK

What airport in AC-U-KWIK currently has the most active runways? And why do you only list the longest runway at each airport in your data? Traditionally, AC-U-KWIK data has only listed the longest runway at each airport. While planning a flight, it is important to quickly assess if an airport will not only meet the trip’s geographic requirements, but if it will be large enough to accommodate the aircraft.

Simferopol Airport in Crimea Now Using URFF Airport Identifier

In March 2014, Russia annexed Crimea. Although the region is still classified by ICAO as Disputed Airspace, Russia has started to include the region’s airports in its Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP). Simferopol Airport now uses the code URFF, instead of UKFF, although this has not been endorsed by ICAO. In a similar situation to that in Northern Cyprus (with respect to Turkey), all flights to Crimea should be arranged via Russia.

Ask AC-U-KWIK: How Crews Find FBOs on the Field

It is important that we publish each FBO’s location on the field to assist pilots and crew in reaching their FBO of choice. The small circle with the direction designation denotes the FBO’s location relative to the center of the airport environment. Obviously, there is no such mark on the field, or geographically defined “airport center,” so we ask FBO managers to give us their best estimation.

What Is the Difference Between the AC-U-KWIK eBook App and the AC-U-KWIK App?

What is the difference between the AC-U-KWIK eBook app and the AC-U-KWIK app?

Great question! Quite simply the AC-U-KWIK iOS app for the iPad and iPhone is a full application resource with map search functionality, airport information, FBO location diagrams, weather, detailed FBO/handler pages and plenty more with subscription tiers for North American and global access.

On the other hand, the Managers’ World Edition eBook App is a straight-up digital version of AC-U-KWIK’s desktop print edition — our most comprehensive global print resource. It does offer bookmarking and multiple search options plus the convenience of not hauling around a 3 lb. book.

For more information, check out our eBook FAQ. Here’s a video showing the basic functionality released when we launched the eBook app:

ASK AC-U-KWIK: Can't Find That FBO Address?

We saw a recent topic in the NBAA AirMail forum that noted some FBOs don't have an address clearly listed on their web sites. We thought it would be a good time to remind the business aviation community that ACUKWIK.com is your best bet for streamlined, quick access to FBO addresses across the world. A single search on the new ACUKWIK.com, launched in March, takes you to your target airport where FBOs with addresses are listed on the main page among other key information.

In addition, top FBOs across the world participate in providing a precise on-the-field location on our AC-U-KWIK FBO locator diagrams. These diagrams are also conveniently located on the main airport page. You may zoom the diagrams for clarity and save them as PDFs for offline use.

ASK AC-U-KWIK: Why are AM radio stations listed in the AC-U-KWIK North American FBO Directory?

Yes, the AM radio station list is back and completely updated with the best of talk-radio, sports, gospel, country, oldies and many other genres. After removing the list a few years ago, it is back by popular demand. The frequencies received by the ADF in your airplane (if you actually still have one, that is) include AM radio stations. Not only can you home in on the transmitting tower of a town’s local AM station when using the ADF, you can also pass the lonely miles away listening to Merle Haggard or Sean Hannity. When was the last time your GPS did that?

Why Do I Have to Register For North American Data?

With the rollout of the new ACUKWIK.com website in December, we un-veiled several new data fields for the site, but we are also now requiring users to register and log-in to see data at North America airports that had previously been open. It’s a simple answer. This our first step toward developing a custom user experience.

Ask AC-U-KWIK: Runway Change Updates

At our airport we recently had our single runway lengthened from 3,852 feet to 5,000 feet. In addition, it was widened from 50 feet to 75 feet. I made sure to notify AC-U-KWIK in our “Airport Manager Questionnaire” that is sent to me annually. But it hasn’t been changed yet on the AC-U-KWIK website. Why the delay?

ACUKWIK.com Distance Calculator: Nautical Miles Default

Question: Why does the ACUKWIK.com distance calculator seem to default to nautical miles?

Our distance calculator always defaults to nautical as this is the predominant distance unit used in aviation (as opposed to statute miles or kilometers). The only time that nautical miles are NOT used in aviation is when distances of visibility are reported. They are given in statute miles.

UNICOM, ARINC or ASRI: What’s the Frequency, AC-U-KWIK?

Question: When using AC-U-KWIK, I often come across different types of frequencies to contact an FBO while inbound to an airport. Of course I am familiar with UNICOM, and I also know that ARINC frequencies are individual frequencies for FBOs. But why do I see ASRI frequencies listed in AC-U-KWIK? Is this a new form of technology or just a name change?
